Public holidays in BitaBIZ
In BitaBIZ, public holidays can be managed in two different ways:
Official public holidays (country-specific)
Local or company-specific holidays
Both options are described below and can be combined to match your needs.
Official public holidays
BitaBIZ supports official public holidays for more than 40 countries. When they are activated in an employee’s policy, they are automatically added to the employee’s calendar.
Vacation days that fall on a public holiday are not deducted from the vacation balance if vacation is taken across a public holiday.
How to enable official public holidays
Navigate to: Setup Admin → Modules
Open or create the relevant policy
Go to the Public holidays section
Select the relevant country from the dropdown menu
Check the public holidays you want to activate
The selected public holidays will automatically appear in the calendar for employees assigned to the policy.
BitaBIZ retrieves public holidays from timeanddate.com and therefore only supports holidays available through that source.
Local / company-specific holidays
If you need holidays that are not official (e.g. local, religious, or company-specific days off), these can be created manually.
This is done via custom registration types. As these are created manually, they will not appear in the public holiday overview but will instead be available under your own registration types.
We recommend creating the registration type with the “Payroll admin only” option enabled.
This ensures that employees cannot create or modify these holidays themselves, as they are typically managed centrally.
How to create a local holiday
Give it a name (e.g. “Local holiday”)
Check the option “The registration type is a day off”
Optionally assign the registration type to relevant policies if not all employees should have access to it
How to assign a local holiday
Once the registration type has been created, the holiday can be assigned to employees:
Multiple employees: Use group registration at policy or department level
Individual employees: Create the registration directly on the employee
This allows you to manage local holidays flexibly without affecting other employees.
Choose the correct type of holiday
Use official public holidays when the day is a national holiday
Use local holidays when the day is company- or region-specific
